Don't forget now...

Don't forget to add your digital stories, podcasts and links to your hot list websites and 3 new links to hot list sites. I have already created the pages for them just look under the lesson materials link, and the water resources links page.

Module 4...

Looks like we are doing a LOT of group work this week. Lets try to stay connected VIA the blog. Looks like we need to create this project using google maps, etc. Also, it looks like we need to register for something online, too. We need to pick a project related to our topic "water resources" and follow the steps to the project. Whats everyone think?

WEB EVALUATIONS

Here are the 3 websites I used for my evaluations:

http://heartspring.net/water_filters_guide.html

http://www.doh.wa.gov/phepr/handbook/purify.htm

http://crisistimes.com/survival_water.php

I just want to make sure we don't evaluate any of the same websites. I had the same ones you did, Greg, on my hotlist. I didn't use them though! Hope everything's going great for everyone.

Evaluation of web sites / Lesson plan

Well over the last day and a half I have been looking at web-sites about the whole process of municipal water purification. So far here are the links I have found:
http://www.cyber-nook.com/water/Solutions.html
http://www.excelwater.com/eng/b2c/about_8.php
http://www.hitachi-pt.com/products/es/purification.html
http://www.fcwa.org/story_of_water/html/clean.htm
I really like the last one because it looks like it was designed for young students.

As for the lesson plan in the materials for module #3 it says that we each have to create a different lesson plan, and if any of us use the same topic or idea then we will both lose credit for the assignment.
For my lesson I was thinking that I would have students create a movie/presentation of the different stages of the water purification process, individually or in groups, using either movie maker or something like power point. Then having students present this to the class and post it online via YouTube.

-Good luck this week and happy lesson planning!

Evaluation of the Web sites/ Project

I've found a few websites so far for the evaluation part of our project. Can everyone please check them out and tell me what you think? I'm working on the Water Purification Processes and I figure that I will research 3 websites that have to do with that topic, since I think the processes are pretty important for our project.

Exactly WHAT are we doing for our project? Are we making a website? I thought for my lesson plan I would have my students create a blog/pamphlet on the processes. I don't exactly understand what the entire project will come together like in the end. Anyone else understand? Anyways, here are my websites that I found..and the ones I am thinking of evaluating.

Thanks everybody. Lets try to keep communicating this weekend about this project, so that we are all on the same level.

Lesson Plan for week of May 25th

Alright, it looks like each of us needs to pick our own topic to write a lesson plan, which is due this week. What would everyone like to do? We have to make sure we don't do the same topic. I'd say we should look at the concept map and pull our ideas from there. Any ideas?

INSPIRATION Concept Map: May 22nd, 2010

2 Ideas for concept map

I have been around the net tonight looking at water purification articles, and one of the topics that I think could go on our concept map is "homeade water purification technologies".
This includes ideas such as:
Boiling water to remove pathogens (a good demonstration that teachers and elder students can do in the classroom)
Chemical treatment: the use of iodine or chlorine in water to remove bacteria and other harmful organisms
Chlorine treatment, many cities use a form of chlorine treatment in their tap water systems
Filtration systems, i.e. charcoal filters for campers (I have used charcoal filters in the past on camping trips, and have a basic understanding of how they work), brita filters, pur filters for the home (many families have these types of filters that are part of a pitcher, a refrigerator, or come as an attachment to a sink faucet).

Another idea for the concept map to go along this line is:
We use water every day to drink, cook, and bathe. How is that water recycled in our cities and towns water systems.
so the concept for this part is "recycled water" or reclaimed water
This process is interesting because it takes the water we use everyday, treats it in much the same way for home use then releases the water back into the aquifer to rejoin the water cycle.
Now this process leads to the question is the water safe to drink or not? Well not exactly some impurities can remain in the recycled water but they cam be filters out by many of the standard filters and other systems that are put into place by cities and towns.
Lastly students interested in this topic can look at the concept of recycling water aboard the international space station, and learn how the astronauts can recycle their urine into actual drinkable water.

Good News Everybody!

As I have been looking at the other collaborative blogs for this class, the posts and comments lead to the fact that we only need to do one concept map for the group. I'll be back with my ideas and concepts a little later.

Project ideas so far

I'm just brainstorming here, but I do have some early ideas about the project such as:
Cathereing/collecting fresh water.
Purifying water so that it is safe to drink.
What is in our water before it is collected, and how do we remove these impurities?
How do we transport water from the source to the tap or into bottled water?
Mapping water resources across the United States, or just one state in particular (I.e. Michigan).

Well it's a start, tell me what you think and let's see where this goes.

BRAINSTORMING

Hi Water Resources group. This is my first time using a blog, so please stick with me. We need to come up with a "project" so that we can get started on our INSPIRATION concept maps. I'm a little bit confused on what we should do for "water resources", does anybody have any ideas for our project?
